1. The International Policing Assessment and Planning Group (APG) has been established to improve the capability of HMG to deploy UK police officers to international peace support operations and missions.

2. The APG will provide support to bilateral and multilateral peace support operations on which serving UK police personnel are deployed; this will include support to the security sector reform and rule of law elements of peace support operations.

Aim:

3. The APG will:

  • Provide an expert and timely planning and needs assessment capability for HMG prior to deploying police personnel on international missions;
  • Ensure that the planning and assessment for police personnel deployments to international missions takes account of wider justice and security sector issues;
  • Avoid gaps in planning through co-ordination with military and civilian planners;
  • Engage the wider ACPO and ACPOS community in the deployment process; and
  • Contribute to a 2-year mission forecasting process
