4. When deployed the two primary roles of the APG will be to conduct:
- advanced and timely assessment, evaluation and planning for the integrated policing components of proposed or anticipated peace support operations and security sector reform missions, and
- regular and pre-planned assessment, evaluation and planning relating to the policing components of existing peace support operations and security sector reform missions
5. These assessment, evaluation and planning roles will primarily be carried out in relation to an anticipated or actual contribution of UK personnel to a mission. Although primarily a UK capacity, the APG will also be made available to contribute to multilateral assessments of international policing missions (e.g. to provide additional assessment and planning capacity to the UN’s Standing Police Capacity and the EU Civilian Response Teams).
6. The APG has been established with a collegiate ethos, in order that it will become the centre of excellence for UK civilian policing contributions to peace support operations, capable of leading and advising on doctrine and policy development.
