7. The APG consists of a reserve cadre of 32 serving and retired police officers, ranging in rank from Inspector to Deputy Chief Constable, with a wide range of specialist professional skills and experience. All members of the group have undertaken specialised training to equip them for their tasks in and formulating assessments, evaluations and plans at strategic, operational and tactical levels, and have also undergone hostile environment training.
8. Serving officers will be released from regular force duties to carry out APG duties, to an indicative maximum of 25 days APG work per year, whilst retired staff will be engaged on a contract basis according to requirements.
9. The APG is capable of operating across the range of EU, UN and bilateral missions. APG members are capable of operating alone or in teams, which may be single-discipline (i.e. containing only police officers), or multi-discipline where they will work alongside military and civilian planners, rule of law personnel and other experts, from Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ), Post Conflict Reconstruction Unit (PCRU), and other government departments as appropriate.
10. The APG will serve as an HMG wide resource. Operational support management of the group will be carried out by Conflict Group in the FCO, whilst tasking will be led by Conflict Group in close consultation with other FCO departments, PJHQ, PCRU, the Department for International Development, the Home Departments, and the Associations and Chief Police Officers.
