14. Following selection all group members took part in two intensive training courses to equip them to carry out the roles of the APG. First, a 5 day Hostile Environment course which covered subjects including;
- Pre-deployment considerations
- Arriving in country – basic rules
- Cultural awareness
- Emergency procedures and living and working in Hostile Environment
- Personal Equipment and body armour
- Surveillance awareness and personal security
- Conflict management
- Post traumatic stress and managing stress in a HE
- Medical 1 - Basic life support
- Medical 2 - Secondary survey and recovery position
- Medical 3 - Control of bleeding
- Medical 4 - fractures and burns
- Medical 5 - Road traffic accidents and casualty handling
- Medical 6 - Severe injuries and conflict zone issues
- Working with Protective Security Details
- Anti-ambush drills and protection teams
- Emergency navigation - GPS and map reading
- Armoured vehicles and vehicle security/search
- Vehicle preparation and radio communications
- Military protocols – Operating Procedures, Ops rooms and contingency plans
- Convoy procedures - how to move by military transport
- Vehicle checkpoints
- Ballistics awareness - small arms and heavy weapons
- Reaction to enemy fire
- IEDs, mines and booby traps
- Abduction and kidnap survival
- Scenario exercises
15. In addition all group members also attended a seven day course at the Police Staff College Bramshill, were they received briefing and instruction from UK and international military, policing and civilian experts, and undertook scenario based assessment and planning exercises. 16. The Assessment and Planning Group has now attained operational capacity. APG members have already deployed to various planning exercises and conferences and will also undertake a number of operational deployments over the next 12 months.
